About Intracoastal Police Athletic League

The Intracoastal Police Athletic & Activities League (IPAL) is a two-city collaboration serving the youth of the City of Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach. Born from the vision of the late Aventura Commissioner Michael Stern, IPAL was founded with a simple but powerful mission: to provide meaningful leadership initiatives and accessible athletic programs for our community’s teens.  Through a strong partnership between the Aventura Police Department and the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department — with the full support of both city commissions — IPAL creates a welcoming, shared space where police officers, community leaders, and youth can connect.  Our goal is to engage teens in positive, structured environments that encourage growth, mentorship, and community involvement.

IPAL serves teens ages 13–17, offering:

  • Leadership development
  • Mentorship opportunities
  • Educational enrichment
  • Community service initiatives
  • Recreational programming
  • Amateur athletic programs

Our participants benefit from the dedication of both civilian and police coaches, mentors, and instructors who generously invest their time, experience, and passion into helping young people thrive. At its core, IPAL is about connection, opportunity, and building a stronger community — together.
